Do Alaskan Air Conditioners dehumidify?
Yes. All Alaskan Air Conditioning Units dehumidify the air. They do this by removing humidity (water particles) from the air, which is collected in a removable tray at the base of the unit.
What air conditioner do I need for my size of room?
You will need approximately 4 BTU (British Thermal Units) per cubic foot OR 40 watts per cubic metre, to cool you room. As a guide, the Alaskan PAC-9000H-A (9000 BTU) will comfortably cool an average room size of 12 x 16 x 8 feet. Consideration should also be given to additional heat sources such as computers, printers, televisions and other electrical appliances, as well as south facing windows. 1 BTU is 0.293 watts and 1 watt is 3.412 BTU.
How does it work?
Alaskan air conditioning units work by removing the heat from a room and venting it outside, via the extraction tube. Hot air is drawn into the unit by a fan that passes the air through a cold coil, any excess humidity and heat is vented outside, whilst the cold air is forced back into the room to reduce the temperature. As the air is cooled, some moisture gets collected in the base of the evaporator coil and is then drained into the collect tray.
